Administrative Structure: The Role of the Organising Committee
Responsibility for organising both courses lies with an interdepartmental Organising Committee; which is responsible for Admissions, and constitutes the Academic Committee for each student.
- It advises proactively on course selection, with the goal of ensuring a balanced exposure to the different components, in the light of the students' backgrounds. Both research rotation placements are subject to the committee's approval; this entails discussion of the project, and could entail its modification, in collaboration with the laboratory supervisor.
- It monitors student progress on the taught course, which is assessed as each module is completed.
- For students on the 4-year programme, it will assess the doctoral thesis proposal, requesting any changes deemed necessary and will then monitor progress throughout the 3-year doctoral research project. The committee can request a change of research project or supervisor should the need arise,
The committee is also concerned with the organisation and content of the course and aims to ensure the intellectual coherence of the course. The Course Lecturer, who is part of the Organising Committee, organises the day-to-day running of the programme
