Conference - Different Elements of Primate Neural Networks in the Connectome Era

The purpose of the workshop is to provide a critical overview of the strategies used for different types of questions regarding connections in non-human primates (NHP), and the considerations that need to be evaluated in bridging between the species and techniques. It will also deal with what conceptual and technical advances can be anticipated and what are the major gaps, and how does the field deal with these. Lectures will focus on recent connectional data mainly from NHP and humans, prompting discussion on current understanding of primate neural circuits at the micro- meso- and macro-scale. The workshop will be highly integrative and interdisciplinary. The presentations will be appropriate for a broad audience consisting of scholars from multiple disciplines, representing different levels of seniority (e.g., graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, junior and senior researchers). Issues covered by the Workshop will include:

• Microcircuitry: cell types and connectional heterogeneity
• Exploiting non-invasive MR-based and e-physiological techniques to define cortical circuits
• Neural networks for controlling specific behaviors
• Circuit dynamics
• Brain wiring in development and disease
• Evolutionary perspective on connectivity in primates
