The effects of applying a mechanical strain directly to primary human osteoblasts for 21-day period using magnetic bead technology were analyzed. It was found that after 21 days, the cells plus magnetic microparticles were viable and had proliferated. A von-koss stain showed a small amount of mineralized bone matrix in sample group (1) produced at 21 days. Results indicate that adherence of RGD-coated 4.5μm ferromagnetic microparticles to primary human osteoblasts does not initiate cell necrosis up to 21 days in vitro.
