The National Coordinating Centre for Public Engagement (NCCPE) recognised that WIN is strong in the following areas:
- There is a clear strategy for public engagement and a strong and committed leadership providing a supportive culture
- The staff members whose roles are associated with championing and driving public engagement are visible
- Large numbers of WIN staff and students are involved, in some way, in public engagement activities
- Personal Development Reviews (PDRs) include public engagement as part of 'good citizenship'
The NCCPE was also delighted to see clear commitment to addressing the key learning points from the Watermark process. Future plans are focused on the following areas:
- Updating the strategy to focus on 'engagement' more broadly, encompassing patient and public involvement, policy, and public and community engagement
- Increasing the number of research projects that can be described as 'engaged research'
- Increasing the diversity in research participants, research focus, and engagement
- Improving reward and recognition for engagement
- Widening the reach of initiatives
