Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust and the University of Oxford are developing plans for the long term future use of the Warneford Hospital site, which opened nearly 200 years ago in 1826.

Working with architects Shepherd Epstein Hunter, the Trust and the University have launched a masterplan to optimise the space for combining clinical expertise and research excellence.

The Masterplan is a vision is for how the site could develop over the next 10-50 years. This incorporates the aim to build state of the art healthcare and research facilities, preserve green spaces and restore listed buildings, alongside creating new accommodation for key workers and beautiful public spaces for wider use.

The opportunity to look forward to the next era of mental health care provision and research comes at a timely moment with the Department of Psychiatry, which is co-located on the site, approaching 50 years since its inception in 1968, and the Warneford Hospital nearing its bicentenary in 2026.

As part of a public consultation event, the plans and the vision were outlined and illustrated, which you can see in this online digital version

There are further details on the Oxford Health website, including a public survey to seek thoughts and ideas on the proposals.
