Senior Scientist & Senior Data Manager for Dementias Platform UK (DPUK) and BrainWaves


I am a cognitive neuropsychologist and epidemiologist managing scientific research across multi-disciplinary areas in brain health. I am also Senior Scientist & Senior Data Manager for Dementias Platform UK (DPUK) a cohort data repository for 65+ cohorts (3.6 million+ participants). For DPUK I am lead for the DPUK Training and DPUK Data Curation programmes.

I am a multi-disciplinary senior scientist leading two main programmes of work on Brain Health. I am PI for Blossom Early Adversity and Brain Health Programme and Modify: Modifying Dementia Risk Through Lifestyle Programme Modifying Dementia Risk — Department of Psychiatry ( Both programmes of work focus on differentially exploring healthy ageing through understanding the characteristics of later life brain health and life-course resilience.

I am also Oxford PI for the NIH funded Covid-19 Global Mental Health Consortium (CGMHC): An international collaborative programme investigating the global mental health impact of the Covid-19 pandemic along with colleagues in Harvard and São Paolo. I also work with colleagues on establishing a data hub for traumatic brain injury (TBI) funded by the Medical Research Council (MRC): TBI-REPORTER (UK-TBI REpository and data PORTal Enabling discoveRy). Further, I work with the Fraunhofer Institute, Germany and European colleagues on the HORIZON funded COMMUTE: COMorbidity Mechanisms UTilized in hEalthcare project.

I supervise a team of DPhil and postdoctoral researchers working across my projects both at the University of Oxford and internationally. I specialise in the application of structural equation modelling (SEM) and psychometric methodologies (IRT) to longitudinal large-cohort data, and train analysts working across multi-modal large cohort data sources. I also lead projects supporting diversity and inclusivity in brain health research. I am PI for an ARUK funded project 'Your Beautiful Brain' - running brain health art workshops for the Black African and Caribbean communities. I am also PI for a programme of work 'Not just a missing number', focused on the LGBTQIA+ community for increasing research participation, understanding and scientific focus for mental and cognitive health within this population. I also lead a programme of work on understanding the difficulties and barriers of hearing aid use in people with cognitive impairment and dementia, funded by ARUK. 

I am also senior scientist for BrainWaves, a platform for understanding adolescent mental health and wellbeing, and providing an evidence base for research
