Digital Phenotyping & Brain Health
Chris Hinds holds the Robertson Foundation Fellowship in Digital Phenotyping at the Oxford University Big Data Institute. His research involves the development of novel digital phenotyping approaches and their application in large cohorts. His group has recently developed the Mezurio smartphone app.
He is PI of the open source Digital Biomarkers for Dementia project co-funded by Roche and Lilly. This work seeks to create smartphone-based, active and passive assessments of cognition and daily function targeted at earliest identification of prodromal Alzheimer's Disease. He is also developing digital phenotyping approaches for Parkinson’s, Mood, & cognition. His True Colours platform has collected more than 1M self-reports from over 35,000 patients. He is technical lead for the Cognitive Health & Neurosciences Clinical Trials Unit, and Digital Device lead for the Oxford Health Biomedical Research Centre.
Before joining the BDI, Chris was a Senior Research Fellow at the Oxford University Department of Psychiatry and the Head of Applications Development for Oxford Health NHS FT. He has played a significant role at several health-tech startups, and lectured extensively for the Oxford University Software Engineering Programme. His DPhil, undertaken at the Oxford University Computing Laboratory, considered methodologies for the design of digital health technologies, especially those using ethnographic methods; his undergraduate degree is in Computation, also from the Oxford University Computing Laboratory.
