Dr Mandeep Singh, an eye surgeon from the National University Hospital of Singapore who is currently undertaking DPhil studies in Oxford in Professor Robert MacLaren’s group in NDCN has recently been awarded the 2013 Ruskell Medal by the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers (WCSM).

WCSM’s goal is to encourage research into ways and means of helping the visually impaired to see better and to inspire new entrants to the professions of ophthalmic and dispensing optics, ophthalmology and/or vision science to contribute to the advancement of our understanding of vision and our ability to overcome threats to it by publishing the results of their recent work.

The Ruskell Medal is directed at those making their initial “first author” published contribution to their chosen field of study. Mandeep was awarded his for Reversal of end-stage retinal degeneration and restoration of visual function by photoreceptor transplantation which details one strategy to restore vision in retinitis pigmentosa and age-related macular degeneration through cell replacement.

Mandeep will be attending a Luncheon which will be held in Apothecaries' Hall in London on Wednesday 2nd October to accept his medal.
